A Comedy Show Curated by a Comedian

Helene Angley is a professional comedian, promoter and the host of Wine & Comedy Nights at Old York Cellars. Her own career takes her around the world performing aboard Viking and Holland America cruise lines, and her many years in the comedy business have given her a deep network of relationships with comedians throughout the New York, Atlantic City and national comedy circuits.

Helene draws on those relationships to curate every show, bringing some of her favorite comedians to perform in the vineyard. Her lineups include established touring professionals and nationally recognized performers, including comedians with Netflix specials, America’s Got Talent appearances and other television credits.

There is a similarity between what Helene does with a comedy lineup and what Old York Cellars and Chef José do with our Wine & Dine Experiences⁠. A great pairing is about more than putting good things next to each other. The combination matters. Helene thinks about the mix of personalities and comedy styles and puts together performers she believes will create a great show for the room.

Helene’s job doesn’t end when the comedians are booked. On comedy night, you’ll find her working the room and talking with as many guests as possible. She meets the birthday groups, anniversary couples, friends getting together, regulars who have been coming for years and people experiencing Wine & Comedy for the first time.

By the time the show gets underway, Helene knows who is celebrating, who has been here before and a little bit about the people sitting in front of her. That interaction helps create the energy in the room and makes the evening feel personal in a way a show in a large theater never could.

It can also be useful information for a comedian with a microphone. The intimacy between the performers and audience is part of the fun. You aren’t watching someone on Netflix from your couch or sitting hundreds of feet from the stage. You’re sharing a room with professional comedians, surrounded by people who came to eat, drink, celebrate and laugh together.

Wine, Dinner and Comedy in the Vineyard

Of course, there is another fairly significant difference between Old York Cellars and your average comedy club.

Come early, open a bottle of award-winning Old York Cellars wine and enjoy food from Chef José before the show. Instead of watching the clock through dinner because you have tickets somewhere else, you can settle in at the winery and enjoy the evening. Wine and food are also available during the performance.

Wine & Comedy has become a natural destination for birthdays, anniversaries, girls’ nights, couples’ nights and groups of friends because the evening gives everyone time to actually be together.

Meet at the winery early, share some wine and food and catch up before the show. For a bigger celebration, add a cabana or make a five-course wine dinner part of the occasion. Parties have reserved table seating for comedy, and guests purchasing tickets separately can arrange to be seated with their group.

Old York Cellars is located in Ringoes, in the heart of Hunterdon County, convenient to Flemington, Lambertville, New Hope and Princeton.

That makes Wine & Comedy easy to build into a day or evening in the area. Spend the afternoon exploring Lambertville and New Hope and finish at the vineyard. Meet friends from Princeton or Flemington for dinner, wine and a show. Or simply make Old York Cellars your destination for the evening.

Wine & Comedy turns out to be a pretty good expression of what Old York Cellars is all about: Connecting Wine, People & Place.

The wine is what we make and share. The place is our vineyard in Hunterdon County. And the people are what make every Wine & Comedy Night its own experience.

They are the comedians Helene has come to know over years in the business and brings to Ringoes because she thinks they’re worth seeing. They are the couples enjoying a night out, the friends finally getting together, the birthday tables and anniversary celebrations. And there is Helene herself, moving around the room, introducing people, discovering who’s celebrating and connecting the audience with the performers.

For 11 years, guests have gathered around tables at Old York Cellars with wine, food and some very funny people on stage.
