How to Make Money Blogging in (Complete Guide)

Trying to figure out how to make money with a blog? I mean, as fun as starting a blog is, I don&#;t think there are very many people who would mind earning at least a little side income from their blog!

But how do you actually go about monetizing your blog? Do you just throw up a bunch of popup ads and call it a day? Well&#;you can. But if you go with that approach &#; you&#;re leaving a ton of less intrusive monetization options on the table.

In this post, I&#;m going to go over a whole heap of ideas for how to make money with a blog. I&#;ll cover everything from the most popular methods (that you might already be familiar with) down to some niche methods that might not have considered already.

The best part is you can use multiple monetization ideas at the same time to create a truly diversified income stream from your blog.

Enough chatting &#; let&#;s get to the money-making do blog sites make money to make money blogging in

Before I jump into the ideas, let me just give you a quick rundown of how I&#;m going to be ordering them. I&#;ll start with the most popular monetization methods and slowly get more narrow as the list goes on. So if you&#;re already familiar with the basics of how to make money with a blog, you might be able to skip the first few suggestions. Otherwise, start at the beginning!

1. Promote products via affiliate marketing

Let&#;s start with one of the biggest money makers for bloggers&#;that regular people often aren&#;t familiar with:

Affiliate marketing.

With affiliate marketing, you get paid for linking or otherwise recommending products or services if someone purchases a product as a result of clicking from your site. When someone buys after visiting from your site, you&#;ll get either a percentage or flat-rate commission.

For example, you could write a product review blog post do blog sites make money get paid if someone buys as a result of your review. An example of this in action is our SiteGround review. If someone signs up to SiteGround from our review, we earn a small commission. Or, you can always curate or mention multiple products at a time.

The important thing here is that the customer still gets the same price, no matter if they buy something based on an affiliate&#;s recommendation or directly from the vendor.

So how can you do blog sites make money these affiliate opportunities?

One way is to look in companies&#; website footers for an Affiliates link. A good percentage of businesses have such links and you can find out about their affiliate program.

Another way is to sign up to an affiliate network (a collection of affiliate programs). Some good networks are:

Lastly, if you&#;re into WordPress, there are two more options that we can recommend:

  1. Our own affiliate program here at Themeisle. Check the details here.
  2. A list of the top WordPress-related affiliate programs in the market.

2. Use Google AdSense ads

I&#;m giving Google AdSense its own category because it&#;s one of the most popular and easiest ways to start monetizing your blog. I&#;m guessing you&#;re familiar with what AdSense ads look like. If not, here&#;s a quick example:

how to make money with a blog with Google AdSense

To get such ads on your site, all you need to do is sign up for AdSense and add the ad code to your site.

Then, Google will serve up ads that are relevant to your content and your visitors. And you&#;ll get paid if someone clicks on your ad (known as cost per click) or even if someone just views your ad (known as cost per impression).

3. Accept sponsored posts from companies

Did you know that there are tons of companies who will pay you money just for writing a post about them? Such posts are called sponsored posts. And if your blog gets decent traffic, plenty of companies will pay for the privilege of sponsoring a post. This might be one of your main strategies on your way to learning how to make money with a blog.

One way to find sponsors for your posts is to use a network like Tapinfluence, do blog sites make money. But honestly, the best way to attract such opportunities is to create a page on your own site advertising your traffic and rates for sponsored posts. That way, advertisers can find you. And trust me, do blog sites make money, sponsors are always looking for opportunities!

Just be aware &#; it&#;s a good practice (and sometimes required by law) to clearly disclose when a post is sponsored.

4. Use other display network ads

AdSense is technically a display network. But because it&#;s so popular, I gave it its own category. AdSense is not your only option here, though. There are tons of other networks where all you need to do is add a code to your site and start displaying ads.

We already wrote about some AdSense alternatives, but some good options are:

Not sure what I mean by display advertising? Here&#;s a quick example of what a Criteo ad might look like:

example of criteo ads

5. Sell ads directly to advertisers

AdSense and other display ad networks find ads for you so that you can find out how to make money with a blog without needing to lift a finger. But in return&#;they do take a cut of what advertisers pay you.

So one way to potentially make more money and have more control over the ads on your site is to cut out the middleman. That is, do blog sites make money, directly sell ads to advertisers.

Like sponsored posts, the best way to attract these opportunities is to create an Advertise page on your site that lists details about your traffic (including Google Analytics screenshots). But you can also try proactively reaching out to companies in your niche.

And once you get some ads, there are plenty of WordPress plugins that can help you manage them. Some good ones are:

6. Sell a digital product, like an eBook

Speaking of cutting out the middleman&#;instead of relying solely on affiliate marketing to sell other people&#;s products, you can create your own digital product that you sell to your audience. While it does take some upfront work, this is actually a fairly popular way to make money from your blog.

For example, the ProBlogger team has created 6 different eBooks that they sell via their blog:

selling ebooks to monetize a blog

Try to think of a product you could create based on the topic of your blog. Then, market that product to your readers!

7. Become a freelance blogger

If you already enjoy blogging, you can actually use your own blog as one big advertisement to attract clients willing to pay you to blog. This is actually a pretty solid way to make a living (it&#;s what I do!). And it&#;s pretty popular in some blogging niches.

For example, Carrie Smith Nicholson runs a personal finance blog called Careful Cents that she also uses to find freelance blogging clients:

freelance blogging

The best way to do this? Create a Hire Me page like Carrie did. Then, if someone likes your writing, they know exactly how to get in contact with you.

But what do you need in order to start this blogging business? We recommend you this comprehensive step-by-step guide by FirstSiteGuide on how to create a blog by yourself.

8. Create an eCourse

Similar to creating a digital product like an eBook, launching your own eCourse is another popular method of monetizing a blog. Again, think of what you&#;re an expert at&#;and offer up a course to your readers.

For example, Elna Cain has a blog about freelance writing that she uses to promote her online courses:

how to make money with a blog and ecourses

Or, you can always create Udemy course based on your blog content and earn money that way.

9. Launch a membership site

The final form of eBooks and online courses is to launch a full membership site. With a membership site, your readers pay every month for access to a full community of information.

For an example of this in action, check out Digital Marketer&#;s &#;Lab&#; site. With Digital Marketer Lab, readers can pay a monthly fee to subscribe to premium content:

membership site

Charge people to read your posts

I know&#;this seems like a pretty far-fetched method for how to make money with a blog. Charging people just to read all of your posts?! No one would ever pay&#;right?

Well, it depends on your niche. I wouldn&#;t recommend this method for most sites. But some bloggers have actually found success using this method. For example, Mark Manson charges readers $4 per do blog sites make money to read unlimited posts:

sell blog access

Readers can read a limited number of posts for free. But after that, they have to pay to continue reading. Again, not for everyone. But if you have longform content that people love reading (like Mark), it might be a viable approach.

Join Consumer Reports

Similarly, Consumer Reports charges a subscription fee for unlocking unbiased reviews and ratings, do blog sites make money, discounts, and more.

Create a podcast

As much as people love reading your blog posts, they don&#;t always have time to stare at words on a screen. So why not reach them in another medium with an audio podcast? Podcasting is exploding nowadays and plenty of bloggers are jumping into the mix.

One of the best examples is Pat Flynn&#;s Smart Passive Income podcast:

podcasting

Once you turn your blog readers into podcast subscribers as well, you can start monetizing your do blog sites make money with ads.

Accept donations

Not a fan of selling products or ads? You can always simply ask for donations! That&#;s what plenty of bloggers do in important, but hard-to-monetize, niches.

One method is to use a service like Patreon to collect money from your supporters, do blog sites make money. Or, you can always use a plugin like PayPal Donations to collect donations directly.

Sell consulting or coaching services

If you aren&#;t looking to become a freelance blogger, another way you can use your blog to sell services is to offer consulting or coaching services. Do blog sites make money principle is the same, but you&#;re selling your time instead of your writing.

For example, Chris Lema runs a popular WordPress blog that he uses to sell his consulting services.

coaching services

Basically &#; you use your blog content to establish your expertise &#; then monetize with consulting.

Sell leads to other companies

If you have a niche blog, your visitors&#; information is valuable to other companies. For example, if you ran a blog on insurance&#;insurance companies would love to pay for access to your readers&#; information.

The information for each reader is called a &#;lead&#. And as long as you&#;re transparent about it, you can collect this information and sell it to other companies. You&#;re basically connecting an interested person (the lead) with a company that fits their need&#;for a fee.

Create a job board

If you have a large audience of people interested in a specific topic, you can use that audience to create a job board in your niche. Then, you can charge companies to post a job ad to your targeted audience.

One of the best examples of this is ProBlogger&#;s Job Board. Companies looking for freelance bloggers pay ProBlogger money just for the privilege of posting a job ad:

make a job board

Sell products via eCommerce

If your blog&#;s audience is more casual than business-oriented, you can make good money selling physical merchandise via an eCommerce store. For example, apparel is a huge seller for blogs that skew more towards humor and entertainment.

One of the most successful examples of this is The Chive&#;s The Chivery store. It sells a huge array of apparel, do blog sites make money, all powered by the success of The Chive&#;s blog.

Sell your blog and cash out

And finally, this brings us to the nuclear option for how to make money with a blog:

Selling your blog.

If you&#;re at the point where you just want to cash out (or if you think you&#;ll reach this point in the future), selling your blog lets you get one big lump sum for all the hard work you put into it.

How much can you expect for your blog? That depends entirely on your traffic, do blog sites make money, age, revenue, and consistency. But generally&#;you can get anywhere from x what your site makes each month.

For example, WPLift, a popular WordPress blog, sold for a massive $, in

As for where to sell your blog, you can either try to find buyers directly or use a third-party marketplace like:

Wrapping things up

And there you go! 17 viable ways for how to make money with a blog. Not all of them will apply to your specific situation, but you should feel free to mix and match to create a diversified monetization stream.

If you rely on a single method for earning money online, you put yourself at risk if that income stream ever stops working. But if you, say: promote affiliate products, have some AdSense ads, run an eCourse, have a podcast all at the same time, do blog sites make money, then it will be difficult for you to ever lose all your revenue overnight!

If you have a blog or site – or you’re thinking of starting one – it’s never too late to start making money from it, do blog sites make money. There are several ways to monetize a blog. This article covers different online revenue models and popular strategies for digital content monetization.

Let’s start with the basics. What is monetization? To put it simply, monetization means making money from your site, do blog sites make money. When you earn revenue from the online content on your blog, that’s monetization.

To begin making money from your blog, there are several online business models:

  • Ads
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Physical or digital product offerings
  • Subscriptions
  • Coaching

How can you make these work for you and your blog? Let’s take a closer look at each monetization model.

Ads monetization: Offer advertising on your blog to make money

As the publisher of a blog, advertising can provide a healthy revenue stream for your online content. Advertisers are willing to pay to gain exposure to your audience. In the same way that a newspaper with a large circulation can charge advertisers more, the more popular your site and content become the more you can earn, do blog sites make money.

You can offer advertising space on your site directly to businesses that want to appear alongside your content. That’s called a direct deal. You can also use an ad network – such as Google AdSense – to sell your ad space on your behalf.

The way AdSense works is by serving ads that are relevant to the content appearing on a specific page of your blog. For example, if your blog is about adventure travel and you’ve just uploaded a post about a trip to Rekyavik, do blog sites make money, AdSense might show an ad about travel insurance, Iceland or warm clothing. As the owner of the site where the ad is appearing, AdSense pays you when a user views or interacts with an ad, do blog sites make money.

With the ability to make online ads relevant to the content and readership of your blog, many advertisers are keen to pay a premium price for your ad space, do blog sites make money.

Affiliate marketing: Earn income through product recommendations

Affiliate marketing is when you include a link in your content to a product or service for sale on another site. Here’s how it works: when someone clicks the link on your site, goes to the affiliate’s site and proceeds to buy the product you’ve endorsed, you earn a commission on the sale.

For blogs with an engaged audience of people who are interested in product recommendations, this can be a viable revenue model. Informational, how-to and lifestyle articles offer lots of opportunities for promoting affiliate products.

Using the example of an adventure travel blog again, say you’ve posted a story about a tour of wild swimming spots. You could use affiliate marketing to recommend the gear – such as a swimsuit, towel and goggles – that you packed for your trip. When a blog reader clicks on the link to the swimsuit you’ve recommended and then buys it, you generate an income from your blog.

To make sure you maintain the trust of your audience, aim to be transparent about your affiliate relationships. In many countries it is also a legal requirement to disclose your affiliate relationships, so be sure to discuss with legal counsel before engaging in affiliate marketing.   Also remember the reputation of your blog is related to the product or service you’re promoting, so focus on quality when choosing your affiliate partners.

Physical or digital product offerings: Sell things to make money from your blog

As a way of monetizing their blogs, many bloggers establish a presence on an ecommerce platform, create an online store, and start selling products. Your products do blog sites make money be physical or digital. In the example of the adventure travel blog, you might sell t-shirts displaying your logo or digital guidebooks for exotic destinations.

Whether your products are physical or virtual, you’ll need to set up a system for accepting payments. Selling physical merchandise requires you to think about storing your stock, do blog sites make money, organizing shipping and handling taxes and duties. Digital goods can be less complex logistically because they can be delivered electronically.

Subscriptions: Charge a regular fee to add a new income stream

If your blog has an active community that’s eager to know more about your subject, a paid membership or subscription model is another way to use your valuable content to generate revenue over the long run.

In this business model, readers pay a fixed amount on a regular basis, typically monthly or annually. By collecting a membership or subscription fee from readers in this way, you can produce recurring income. This kind of continuous cash flow offers the potential for a more stable, predictable and accurate revenue stream.

In exchange, you might offer subscribers or members premium content, do blog sites make money, a community area, learning resources, videos, or extra services and tools. Do blog sites make money could combine several of these elements to suit your blog.

Coaching: Monetize your blog through training

Resource <i>do blog sites make money</i> image

If your blog lends itself to training services, you could earn money by setting up and charging for online courses or coaching packages.

When you create self-guided teaching materials such as videos or downloadable ebooks, you allow members of your audience to proceed at their own pace. As people progress through your course, you can gauge their interest about other topics to cover.

Developing an online curriculum can require significant time and resources upfront, so you’ll need an engaged audience to make it viable.

Another option for increasing your revenue is to offer live video coaching and be paid for your time.

Whether your offer is based around an online course or on-demand coaching, you can also include opportunities to communicate with your students via email or within your blog itself.

Remember, you have many options when it comes to do blog sites make money money from your blog. You can master one blog monetization strategy, or you can mix and match any number of revenue streams to discover what works best for your business. I’ve taken three different blogs to over $1 million per year. In fact, the blog you’re reading right now has made a total of $ million.

And in this post, I’m going to give you a step-by-step case study showing you exactly how I did it, starting from nothing, along with my step-by-step guide for beginners trying to get started.

Let’s jump in.

7 Ways to Make Money Blogging (with Examples!)

  1. Online Courses and Workshops
  2. Books and Ebooks
  3. Affiliate Marketing
  4. Advertising
  5. Speaking Gigs
  6. Consulting/Coaching
  7. Selling Freelance Services

In a moment, I&#;m going to show you a general framework you can follow to start a profitable blog from scratch.

But first, let’s jump into the specifics of how to make real money blogging, including real-world examples you can study and learn do blog sites make money Training:The 31 Most PROFITABLE Niches for Bloggers in

Here are the top 7 awesome ways to make a good blogging income:

1. Online Courses and Workshops

Here at Smart Blogger, we make most of our income from online courses and workshops — over $1 million per year — but we are far from the only successful blog doing this. Most of the people making a lot of money from their blogs are doing it through online courses.

Ramit Sethi reportedly crossed $10 million dollars in annual revenue with his suite of premium courses:

Ramit Sethi - Premium Courses

And it’s not only business or wealth-focused topics that are doing well. You can find successful blogs on just about any topic or niche monetizing with online courses. For instance, the popular interior designer Maria Killam has quite a few courses and workshops in her catalog:

Maria Killam - Courses and Workshops

Online courses and workshops can bring in one-time payments or, depending on your model, recurring income via subscriptions.

2. Books and Ebooks

Quite a few writers have parlayed their blogging success into a major publishing deal. Mark Manson, do blog sites make money, for instance, published a blog post called The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck in Millions of readers later, he got a book deal with Harper Collins and went on to sell over 3, copies in the US alone.

Self-published books have also been successful. The most notable success story among bloggers is probably James Altucher’s Choose Yourself, which is now sold overcopies:

3. Affiliate Marketing

If you’d like to create some passive income streams from your blog, one of the best choices is affiliate marketing — recommending the services, digital products, and physical products of other companies in exchange for a commission.

Here at Smart Blogger, we make more than $, per year promoting affiliate products, most of that coming from casually recommending products we love like SiteGround (affiliate link) and Elementor (affiliate link).

Editor&#;s Note: Read our in-depth review of SiteGround here: SiteGround Review: Still the Best (Or Not-So-Good) in ? And, for an in-depth review of Elementor, read: Elementor Review: Is it REALLY the Best Landing Page Builder?

But there are lots of other examples too. For instance, John Lee Dumas of EOFire made $, in affiliate income last year. Digital Photography School has reportedly made over $, in Amazon Associates commissions from promoting photography equipment:

Digital Photography School - Amazon Affiliates

With so many companies offering referral programs to help spread the word about their product or service, the number of different affiliate marketing opportunities is enormous.

Joining an affiliate network is one way to begin tapping into this revenue stream and to start earning extra income from your hard-earned organic traffic.

4. Advertising

Normally, we’re not big fans of selling ads on your site as a monetization strategy. You need roughly a million visitors per year for the large ad networks to take you seriously, and affiliate marketing is almost always more profitable and just as passive.

That being said, some niches like recipes, do blog sites make money, fashion, and news are hard to monetize through many of the other methods mentioned here, and they get LOTS of page views. In that case, putting a few banner ads on your site can make sense as a supplementary income source.

For example, here’s a screenshot of a income report from Share the Yummy:

Share the Yummy - Income Report

Normally, you make money by joining an ad network. Nearly anyone can join Google AdSense, for example, and you can later grow into more selective networks like Mediavine and AdThrive.

5. Speaking Gigs

If your blog takes off, and you start being recognized as an authority in your space, you might be surprised by how many invitations you get to speak at conferences. And it’s amazingly profitable, do blog sites make money. I typically make a minimum of $10, per speech and it can go as high as $, when you count product sales resulting from the speech.

Not bad for a minute talk, do blog sites make money. 🙂

6. Consulting/Coaching

While this certainly isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, doing a bit of coaching or consulting is an online job that can earn you a surprisingly nice living, even when your audience is small. I rarely do consulting anymore, but the last time I did regularly, I charged $1, an hour with a six-month waiting list.

But I’m not the only one. Going back to Maria, again, she’s been quite innovative in coming up with ways to do design consultations by photo and email, currently charging $1, per room:

Maria Killam - Consultations

You can make this work in almost any niche. You just need to know what you’re doing and be confident in the value you do blog sites make money providing to clients.

7. Selling Freelance Services

The next step up from consulting is to actually do it for them.

Typically, you’ll make more money freelancing than with anything else, but it’s also the most draining and time-intensive. That being said, I’ve seen bloggers make six-figure incomes with no more than a few thousand readers on their blog, essentially using their blog as a lead mechanism to get clients.

It’s so profitable, do blog sites make money, even if successful bloggers continue to do it. For example, Elna Cain continues to sell her freelance writing services:

Elna Cain - Freelance writing services

If you’re a freelance writer, do blog sites make money, designer, photographer, programmer, do blog sites make money, or other service provider where your skills can be sold digitally instead of you having to be there in person, you might want to consider this income stream from day one. All you really need to get started is a contact form for clients to reach out to you.

Okay, now for the fun part, do blog sites make money. Let me show you the framework I used to become an honest-to-goodness millionaire&#;

Go to top

If you’re a new blogger starting from scratch with no traffic or influential friends, it’s easy to wonder…

Is it reasonable for you to believe you can make money blogging?

For that matter, how do blogs even make money? Ads? Sponsored content? Sell products? Good luck? Or something else?

Well, let’s take a look at exactly how I did it at Smart Blogger. Here’s my complete step-by-step process for how to make money blogging:

1. Choose the Right Blogging Niche (a Profitable One)

Let’s start with a little brutal truth, shall we?

  • Passion does not equal profit.
  • Neither does expertise.
  • Hard work doesn’t guarantee anything either.

For example:

You can be the world’s non stock investment options expert on square-shaped tomatoes, wake up every morning with a burning passion to educate the public on their vast superiority to normal-shaped tomatoes, and work until your fingers bleed and your eyes fall out of your head, do blog sites make money, following all the right tactics for turning your new blog into a popular one, and…

You’ll never have a chance in hell at making any amount of money.

Here’s why:

  1. Nobody but you gives a damn about square tomatoes
  2. Even if they did care, they wouldn’t spend any money

In other words, you need a large audience who buys things. Without that, nothing else matters. It’s a prerequisite for everything else.

In the case of Smart Blogger, do blog sites make money, I noticed early on that bloggers buy lots of different things:

what bloggers buy

In fact, there are companies with $10 million+ per year of revenue in most of those categories. It’s also a growing space with millions of people:

Blogger Statistics -

The only problem?

Loads of competition. Whether it be my previous employers Brian Clark or Neil Patel, my good friends over at Problogger, or the gazillion other “blogging about blogging” peeps infesting the social media space, everyone was intent on snagging a piece of the pie. They also had a several-year head start on me.

So, how did I compete? The honest answer:

2. Improve Your Content Skills

You’ve probably heard that “Content is king,” and it’s true… to an extent. A more accurate statement would be…

The Best Content Is King

If that’s hard to understand, think about it this way:

Lots of bloggers sit down and think, “What will I write today?” They jot down some thoughts, doing their best to be helpful, original, and entertaining. If they’re disciplined, they might even stick with it for a few months.

But it almost never works. Here are a few reasons why:

  • What you want to say isn’t what other people want to read
  • You weren’t using a proven content framework
  • It’s not the best post ever published on the topic

Granted, it’s not your fault. Until today, do blog sites make money, chances are no one ever told you about any of those requirements. You thought, to become a successful blogger, you just had to write interesting stuff and publish it.

No, grasshopper, do blog sites make money. No.

The truth is, having good ideas and powerful words isn&#;t enough. You have to create the best content ever published on blog topics lots of people are interested in learning more about. And that brings us to the three levels of content creation:

  1. You know what blog content is popular in your niche, and you write exclusively about those topics
  2. You’ve mastered frameworks proven to make your content more popular (list post, how to post, etc.)
  3. Your content delivers more value to the reader than any other post published on that topic

You’re probably thinking, “Geez. That sounds hard.” And you’re right, it is.

I personally spent about three years honing my skills by writing for other sites before I started my own blog. It doesn’t have to take that long — I’m just a perfectionist, do blog sites make money I wanted to learn from the best people in my space.

How to Quit Your Job - Problogger

It worked, though. Nowadays, my posts get millions and millions of visitors, not because I know some special “secret,” but because I’m really good at what I do.

Blogging is really no different than anything else. The more of a badass you are, the easier it is for you to make money online.

So you want to know how to make money blogging?

Become an awesome writer.

Then the next step is to…

3. Choose a Traffic Source (Google Search or Facebook)

When you’re a newbie, getting traffic is confusing.

Should you focus on optimizing your keywords? Growing your Facebook page? Leaving comments on blogs? Answering questions on Quora? Being active in Facebook groups? Creating videos for your YouTube channel? Starting a popular podcast?

And so on.

There are a gazillion traffic tactics out there. Everybody says theirs is the best.

But here’s the data:

referral traffic sources by topic

Pretty much all the traffic for written content comes from either Google or Facebook. The rest of traffic sources combined don’t even come close to competing with those two Goliaths.

So, how do you get them to send you a bunch of traffic?

One option is you can pay for it. They like that.

But chances are, you’re reading about how to make money blogging because you don’t want to pay for traffic. You want it for free, right?

Well, imagine this:

There’s an arena where all the bloggers in your space go to compete for traffic. The number of other challengers you defeat determines the amount of traffic you receive.

In other words, getting traffic is a sport.

  • There are winners, and there are losers
  • To be good, you have to train
  • You need to study your opponents

There are actually two sports, and I’d bet you’ve heard of both of them: search engine optimization (SEO) and going viral on Facebook. Both take years (yes, I said years) of study to master, but you can start getting pretty decent traffic after just a few months of study and practice.

Which one should you focus on?

Well, here are two questions to guide you:

  • Is your topic something your friends and family regularly talk about on Facebook? Examples: pets, parenting, self-improvement, and health. If so, focus on playing the viral traffic sport.
  • Is your topic something people actively search for information about on Google? Examples: product reviews, specific questions they would ask an expert, do blog sites make money, how-to information. If so, focus on SEO.

For most topics, you can do both, but one or the other will be dominant. In that case, focus on whichever one is dominant.

In the blogging space, for example, stuff about writing and grammar occasionally goes viral on Facebook, because we love criticizing our relatives about their terrible English. On the other hand, you rarely talk with your family about blogging platforms, WordPress plugins, affiliate marketing, digital marketing, keyword research, or any other blogging topics.

You will, do blog sites make money, however, search for them on Google. Just as you would guess then, do blog sites make money, the blogging niche is heavily dominated by search. Here’s a breakdown of Smart Blogger’s traffic by source:

Smart Blogger's Traffic Breakdown by Source

The truth is, we pretty much ignore Facebook. The volume of traffic available there comes nowhere close to the volume of traffic available from search engines. So, we focus on Google.

I also spend WAY more time keeping up to date on SEO stuff than I do on social stuff. I’m a geek about it. Throw me in a room full of Google engineers, and I’d probably know more than half of them.

Not to imply I’m the best, though. I’m also competing against people like Darren Rowse, Amy Lynn Andrews, and Neil Patel. They’re pretty freaking good too.

In time, I think I can be better, but who knows? That’s why sports are fun. You never know who is going to win.

If you’re good though, you’ll always be in the “playoffs,” for your space, and you’ll get lots of traffic. Maybe not the most, but still plenty.

And then you can focus on how to…

4. Grow Your Email List with Pop Ups

Grow Your Email List with Pop-Ups

Chances are, you see pop ups as an annoyance.

They get in the way when you’re trying to read. They ask you to hand over sensitive information like your name, email address, and phone number. Sometimes you have to deal with multiple pop ups on the same site, and it makes you feel hassled and uncared for.

And all that sucks. In my opinion, you have every right to be annoyed.

But here’s the thing…

That’s where the money comes from, do blog sites make money. The best predictor of the revenue for a do blog sites make money making blog is the size of their email list. Here’s a breakdown of our revenue at Smart Blogger comparing revenue dollars from email to other sources.

The rule of thumb is you can expect to make $1 per subscriber per month. So, if you have 10, email subscribers, you should be able to make about $10, per month.

So income statement and retained earnings example, growing your email list is a top priority. You might, however, feel conflicted about using pop ups. What are you supposed to do?

Here’s a different way of looking at it:

If a visitor comes to your site and doesn’t give you their email address, the chances of them returning are nearly zero. You’ll never have another opportunity to help them.

If you believe your content is the best, and you believe you can help them over time, I believe you owe it to them to be as pushy as possible about staying in contact. In other words, not using a pop up is unethical. A little annoyance is a small price to pay for change.

And remember, esg investing the challenges of a growing market doesn’t mean you have to be extremely pushy or spammy. You can absolutely use pop ups in authentic ways.

But you absolutely must use them. Assuming you want to make money, anyway.

5. Begin Monetizing with Affiliate Programs

Begin Monetizing with Affiliate Offers

So, you’re operating in a profitable niche, and you have traffic and an email list. What next?

Lots of new bloggers jump into creating a course or book or community of some sort, but that’s a mistake, do blog sites make money, in my opinion. Before you start selling things, you need concrete evidence those things are what people want to buy. Otherwise, you’re risking wasting months or even years of your life trying to push a product no one wants.

The simplest way to obtain that evidence:

Affiliate programs.

By seeing what your audience buys from other people, do blog sites make money, you can get a much better sense of what they might want to buy from do blog sites make money. If you promote an affiliate product and it converts well, you should think about creating a similar product. If it doesn’t convert well, you should probably move on.

In other words, affiliate program offers are a form of market research. As a bonus, do blog sites make money, you just so happen to get paid commissions on the products your customers buy in the process. So not only are you learning what your target audience wants to buy, but you’re making money from your blog at the same time. Pretty sweet deal.

At Smart Blogger, I’ve tried lots of different offers. WordPress blog hosting, landing page tools, email marketing software, Amazon affiliate content links, WordPress themes, and half a dozen different types of high-quality courses. Since we sell courses, I pay the most attention to the results from those programs, and here are a couple of lessons:

  • End to end solutions sell best. Courses promising to take someone from knowing nothing to making money far outperformed the others. For instance, here’s a screenshot showing us as the #1 affiliate for Danny Iny’s Course Builder’s Laboratory:

#1 affiliate Leaderboard

  • Tools with a clear connection to money making also sell better than the others. For instance, landing page builders. As proof, here&#;s a screenshot of our earnings from promoting LeadPages:

LeadPages - Affiliate Commissions

By themselves, neither of those promotions really moved the needle on our revenue, but they did teach us useful lessons that went into creating Freedom Machine, which brings us to…

6, do blog sites make money. Develop a Unique Mechanism

Before you think about launching your own products or services, do blog sites make money, there’s one essential point about human nature you need to understand:

Whenever anyone purchases anything, they expect to transition from where they are now (Point A) to where they want to be (Point B). For example…

  • When you buy pizza, you want to transition from being hungry and craving pizza (Point A) to tasting delicious pizza and feeling full (Point B).
  • When you hire a plumber, you want to transition from having a clogged, overflowing toilet (Point A) to having a normally functioning toilet (Point B).
  • When you buy a course on SEO, you want to transition from feeling bewildered and getting ignored by Google (Point A) to ranking for competitive terms and getting great blog traffic.

The success of a product ultimately depends on helping customers make those transitions. If the customer doesn’t get to Point B, they typically view the experience as a failure.

So, here’s the magic question:

What makes you better equipped to deliver that transition than your competitors?

The answer to that question is what content marketing expert Todd Brown calls your “unique mechanism.” It’s a little different from a “unique selling proposition,” because it’s not just something about you that’s different, do blog sites make money. It’s something about you or your method that makes you better able to help customers than anyone else.

For Freedom Machine, we have multiple unique mechanisms:

  1. Get published on Medium — a platform with more than 60 million active readers looking for great content
  2. Content frameworks developed behind the scenes at Smart Blogger to produce popular, valuable content
  3. A monetization methodology proven by our success with Smart Blogger

Combined, those unique mechanisms are EXTREMELY convincing at setting us up as the superior solution. Therefore, the product sells like hotcakes.

To be clear… it’s not necessary to have 3 different unique mechanisms. Sometimes just one is all you need (i.e. fresh, do blog sites make money pizza in 30 minutes or less). The core idea though is to make sure you are obviously far more capable than your competitors at delivering results.

Then all you have to do is…

7. Launch the Minimum Viable Funnel

Launch the Minimum Viable Funnel

Look around at successful entrepreneurs of any type, do blog sites make money, and you’ll find a surprising trend:

They tend to sell their products before the product is created.

To most people, this sounds like insanity at best or a disturbing lack of ethics at worst. How could you possibly ask people to buy something that doesn’t exist?

The answer:

It’s the same principle as Kickstarter.

Kickstarter campaign

You create a fancy minimal sales funnel of some sort (in this case, just a simple sales page), tell people the product is coming soon, and then wait to see if enough people sign up to justify making the product. If they don’t, you refund everyone’s money and start over.

In other words, it’s the final step in validating you have a viable product. The steps go like this:

  1. Identify demand by promoting affiliate products
  2. Find a unique mechanism that makes you clearly superior
  3. Test the demand for that unique mechanism with a quick and dirty launch before you create the product

In my case, the minimum viable funnel was a minute webinar. The first time I did it, there was no product, do blog sites make money, no follow-up sequence, nothing. It was just a bare-bones test.

And it resulted in $, in sales live on the webinar.

Seeing that $30, sales was my minimum for success, we went ahead and created the first version of the product live with students. About a year later, it’s now approaching $1 million in sales.

That’s also just one product. We have others, and we have still more in the research pipeline.

And guess what I would do if I had to start over again?

The exact same thing. It’s not easy, it’s not fast, it’s not even that sexy, do blog sites make money it works.

Let’s close with some questions and answers, shall we?

Nothing.

Penny Hoarder - Affiliate Marketing

So why aren’t more bloggers rich?

The truth is, most people quit. They start a blog, write a post or two, realize it’s hard work, and walk away.

But if you’re patient and persistent?

You can make millions. I have. So have lots of other smart, dedicated entrepreneurs.

You just have to do the work. Consistently. For years.

Can you do that?

Then yeah, I think you can make six figures at least. Maybe more.

How to Make Money Blogging in ($25,+/Month)

As a blogger, one of the biggest questions people usually have is how to make money blogging. I get it—having a blog is cool, and maybe you’re even enjoying writing as a hobby, are royalties always passive income at the end of the day, it’s always going to be just a hobby unless you start making money online.

This post on how to make money blogging focuses % on helping bloggers understand different ways they can make their first $ as a blogger.

Can you make more than that? Sure! But let’s start with that goal in mind to begin so you have an attainable goal and don’t get overwhelmed.

But first, a little about me.

Before I begin, I want to say that I understand your situation because, inI was in the same position. I started numerous blogs, invested quite a bit of money, and was met with consistent failure.

I logged all of my revenue and expenses from those days, and you can see my blog income reports here.

But, if you don’t want to read my reports, you can see below that I was barely making any income each month when I started.

income report

When I finally did learn how to make money blogging, it was all from consulting that resulted from the hard work on my website.

Passive income seemed like a dream….until it wasn’t.

That said, I understand how difficult it is for beginner bloggers to make money because they don’t have a target audience, and they’re just trying to grow. I’ve been there myself.

Now that I’ve figured things out, I’ve grown significantly, and last year, I made over $, do blog sites make money, with my portfolio of blogs that I own.

Not only do I understand what it’s like to be a beginning blogger, but I also understand what it takes to scale a successful blog so that it makes thousands of dollars every single month.

I’ve gone through this process multiple times, and unlike some other “gurus” out there, I practice what I preach.

To be clear, I’m not telling you how much I’ve made to boast; I’m telling you these blogging tips to show you that I know your situation and what’s possible if you make the right decisions.

It all starts with the blog you create.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is that some people get into this world of geld anlegen etf corona and write a new blog or aimless posts about different things they’re dealing with or are passionate about.

They avoid the free domain name that hosting sites offer, and instead, they buy a domain name, web hosting account, and server like Bluehost and launch a new self-hosted Do blog sites make money blog. (If they took my IGNITION course, they’d know they need to do more than just this, but I digress)

It’s great that they took a step to start their own blog. I give them credit….

But this is where the problem starts for new bloggers…

They look at a blog as an online journal of sorts and read somewhere that “if you write it, they will come.”

Typically, these people blog for just a few months. After that, they won’t spend any money on any tools to help them.

They don’t want to outsource anything because they see it as an “expense” and not an investment.

And frankly, I don’t feel bad for these folks.

To have a successful blog, do blog sites make money, you need to treat it like a business. Many successful bloggers do this, and you should too. Think of your blog as a piece of digital real estate in a business portfolio.

Have you ever seen a small business succeed without any money to support its growth? The answer is no.

Every single blogging business out there needs some type of investment to grow, and your blog is no different.

Whether it be online courses to help you better understand blogging, tools to help you become more efficient, or outsourcing tasks to save you time, the great bloggers treat this as a business, and that’s why they succeed.

But it isn’t just that….

People who start a blog and look to make money with it spend their time to make sure that the blog they’re trying to create has some type of commercial intent.

What do I mean by this?

Let’s quickly compare two different blogs to illustrate my point.

commercial viability in blog niches

Which one do you think has more commercial do blog sites make money of the two different blog niches above?

If you answered Website B, you’re correct.

In the case of a blog, commercial viability refers to how much commercial entities will be interested in the content you have written on the blog.

Let’s explain further.

If you choose to make Website A, you’d have a blog focused on lyrics, do blog sites make money, poetry, the meaning of English words, and interpreting what different song lyrics mean.

While there is an audience for this, and you might get decent traffic, how can you make money from a blog like this?

The blog content you write has very little to do with any company, so there will be a high advertiser demand. But, conversely, low demand means low earnings per click, fewer affiliate products, and users who never intended on spending money in the first place.

Conversely, Website B writes blog posts about pet health and pet training. The commercial viability for a blog&#;s niche like this is extremely high because advertisers want to sell their products to your audience. You can even create an online store and sell your own ecommerce products to your audience if you’d like.

Think about it…Pet Health has a lot of physical products like pet vitamin companies, pet food companies, veterinarians, pet toys that promote physical activity, and pet training has behavioral experts, products that can help, and medications.

There are plenty of pet-related affiliate programs out there that can be used, as you can see by this list from Diggity Marketing. Granted, do blog sites make money, this list is just for dogs, but the point is that there is no shortage of commercial viability when it comes to the pet niche.

Do you see the difference?

Website B has significantly more commercial viability than website A, do blog sites make money. This will make it so that you’re more likely to succeed because you’ll be able to make more revenue and passive income as you grow.

If you want to create successful blogs, you need to ensure a commercially viable blog niche. To find the right profitable niche and monetization strategies, you may want to check this free course I offer.

Now that you understand commercial viability let’s get into the list of different tactics you can use and the step-by-step instructions to make money with a blog.

1) Affiliate Income

For those who don’t know, if you find a product or service that you like, you can link to it from your blog articles, do blog sites make money, and when people click and buy something from your link, you’ll get a small commission for referring them.

This is a do blog sites make money way to make money online from blog monetization in the beginning because you don’t need a ton of traffic coming to your website to make money blogging.

If you have the right content, it might only take people to visit a blog post, and if one person clicks and purchases one of the products you recommend, you’ll make money blogging.

Where to Find Affiliate Programs

If you&#;re trying to understand how to make money blogging, one of the most common recommendations is to use affiliate programs.

Let’s review some of the most popular options.

Share a Sale

Share a Sale

The first is www.oldyorkcellars.com This is an affiliate network of many companies that have joined and hosted their affiliate programs to get an affiliate link with the platform.

This is a great option if you’re just getting started because you can find many different companies in a different blogging niche that’ll complement your efforts if you haven’t found the right products to promote yet.

One nice benefit of this platform is that you can apply to multiple programs and then manage it all from one interface after you join.

www.oldyorkcellars.com

CJ

Next is Commission Junction. This is another affiliate network where you can manage everything in one place. This is one of the oldest affiliate networks out there.

Amazon Associates

Amazon Associates

You can apply to Amazon Associates. Not everyone knows this, but if you link from your blog to a particular product on Amazon and a reader from your blog clicks on that link and purchases it, you’ll make a commission from that product.

The problem with the Amazon affiliate platform is that they pay very little compared (% in most cases) to other programs out there, but I still make $ – $ per month with this platform. The reason is that although the commission rate is low, Amazon does an unbelievable job at converting people.

Use Google

If you like a product or service and want to recommend it to people, but you also want to make money blogging from blog monetization, check with a simple Google search. Whether you know this or not, nearly all websites use Google for monetization.

Just type in the company name along with “affiliate program,” and most of the time, they’re already going to have an affiliate program for you to join.

How to Start as an Affiliate

How do you get started with affiliates? It’s pretty easy.

1. Grow your blog to visits/day

Generally speaking, you want to have about people visiting your blog each day. You need this because you have to have some traffic to get approved for an affiliate program.

Otherwise, they’re going to look at your blog and think, “Well, you don’t have traffic, so we’re not going to approve you.” So then, do blog sites make money, you won’t even have the chance to sell anything.

2. Make a list of products/software that you use

If the traffic is there, I advise you to make a list of products you use or things that you’re a big fan of and figure out if you want to sell them. Do blog sites make money like this approach because you’ll have personal experience, so it’s much easier to create blog content as you’ll already be an expert.

3. Sign up for affiliate programs

You can sign up for all the different affiliate programs. Just let them know a little bit about you, your website, how it’s growing, and do blog sites make money usually do blog sites make money accepted to those programs.

It takes about minutes to apply to each affiliate program, and the information required is straightforward, and you can add affiliate links to your posts.

4. Create Blog Post and Content

If you’re starting with this, I highly recommend that you focus on writing “Best,” “Vs.” or “Review” content. Keyword research is crucial to a successful blog, so take your time here or hire a keyword research service.

“Best” Content: This type of content focuses on helping people understand what the best options are for a specific product. You can do keyword research for each quality content to see the best options for products you can write about. For example, I wrote a post on the best youtube editing software. This post lists several possible solutions for YouTube video editing, and if people click on one of the links and buy the product, I can make a commission for referring them.

“Vs.” Content: I haven’t done a ton of this quality content, but it’s a good way to create solid affiliate content. What you would do here is compare two products together and see which one comes out on top. For instance, I could post Wincher vs. other keyword rank tracking software.

“Review” Content: This type of content is created when you want to focus on a singular product and do an in-depth review of it. I’ve done an Accuranker review, Systeme io review, and even a review of Thrive Themes.

As you can see, the Thrive Themes review is very comprehensive, and anyone who goes there has the potential to click on my links and purchase the software. In addition, I check into some analytics, and you can see below that I’ve been able to make over $13, in commissions with this one post.

review content

2) Consulting Services

Next on how to make money, blogging is consulting—and this is pretty simple if there’s a specific skill you have. For instance, I’m in the online business and internet marketing blogging niche.

I had my digital marketing skills when I started the website, do blog sites make money, so I opted to offer consulting services. For me, it was pretty easy because my former employer wanted me to freelance for three months as they transitioned to a new employee.

The point here is that if you have a profitable blog on a specific marketable topic/subject, you can offer do blog sites make money as a consultant for different businesses out there. Landing clients is the hardest part, but if your content on your blog is attracting the right people, it can be done.

How to Start Consulting

1. Ask your current or most recent employer

Your current or most recent employer is a great way to start. For example, if you want to leave your job and get into blogging full-time and you have a certain skill your employer needs, you can put in your two weeks and explain that you’d love to continue as a consultant if they have you.

Some employers won’t be receptive to this, but some will be. It all depends on the company&#;s culture and how your boss feels about the work you’ve done.

2. Choose a specialty

The key when you’re doing consulting is that you need to pick a specialty to help you in making money blogging from your expertise. This is usually related to what you do professionally, do blog sites make money, but it doesn’t always have to be.

As an example, let’s say do blog sites make money you’ve been an accountant for seven years, but you have a passion for health and nutrition. Your specialty could be online personal training.

Even though you may not be as credentialed in that as you are in accounting, as long as you’ve studied the subject, you’ll know more than most people.

But frankly, the easiest way to have quick success is to choose something related to the job you have. Wherever you’re employed, there will be skills you have that are sought after, so select a blog topic that you already understand.

3. Put a form on your website for people to contact you

contact page

In order for people to contact you about consulting, you have to have a WordPress plugin contact form (duh).

There is plenty of a wide variety of Contact Form WordPress plugins to help with this, but I’m a fan of contact form 7 myself. It’s free, lightweight, and easy to use.

4. Market yourself

Next, on making money blogging, you want to market yourself with social media and your blog. For social media, you can put it on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, or wherever else you have a presence. For your blog, you can put your consulting service offer in the navigation or even have it on your blog&#;s homepage.

Just make it clear that you offer to consult and create content that your ideal customer would want to read.

Editors Note

Most people neglect them as resources, but don&#;t be scared to look on Craigslist and Fiverr for someone who might be interested in your services. It&#;s a great way to land your first few clients!

5. Gather leads and choose the best fit

Once you have a blog up and have spent time creating content, do blog sites make money, you’re going to start getting people contacting you looking for services. From here, you need to gather those leads and determine who is the best fit for you as a consultant.

This isn’t easy to determine at the start, so begin by landing your first few clients to see what you like/dislike about them and the whole aspect of working with others.

6. Do your best work

Make sure that whenever you have a new client, you do your absolute best at making them happy. This should go without saying, but it’s really important because word of mouth will grow your consulting opportunities. They’re much more likely to refer you to other people if you do a great job.

3) Sell Digital Products

The next idea to figure out how to make money blogging is to sell digital products. This could be a PDF, plans or instructions, apps, online courses, or even an eBook—it doesn’t matter. The idea here is that you have your own products for sale on your website that you refer people do blog sites make money, and if you convince them that there’s enough value, they’ll buy it.

How to Start Selling Digital Products

1. Choose a product complementary to your website visitors

Figure out who do blog sites make money demographic is and think about what they need. Do blog sites make money example, my blog focuses on online business.

Therefore, it would make sense for me to have an eBook on the best practices for digital marketing and affiliate marketing, for example.

You have to take some time at this step to understand your audience better and figure out what they want. This can be difficult because you don’t have much of an audience to speak with if you&#;re starting.

So, how can you do it? Simple.

Use analytics to understand your most popular post(s) on your blog and create an informational product that people who visit those posts would be willing to buy.

I’m simplifying the process, but it doesn’t have to be that complicated. Just look at what blog topics and posts are driving traffic to your blog and figure out how to make a product that fits what your website visitors are looking for.

2. Create an outline

Next, you need to create an outline for your book, plans, instructions, PDF, do blog sites make money, or whatever you’re making. For this, you need to think from a high level.

Create a full outline that covers all aspects of what your product needs to cover. This exercise will be very important for you to think through every aspect of the final product.

3. Write the info product

Next, you have to write the info product. Again, the best way of doing this is to focus on completing one piece at a time.

Don’t try to complete it all in one day. Instead, just focus on making progress each day for a week, do blog sites make money, or even a month. I’ve written quite a few blog posts do blog sites make money my day, and some of these are lengthy.

I’ve found that the best way to create these types of posts/guides is to work on them each day and not force myself to work on them all at once. If I spend too many hours on one piece of content in a given day, do blog sites make money, I start to lose my creativity, and the writing suffers. So, knowing this, I advise you to create a little bit each day.

4. Choose a place to sell it

Once you’ve created your info-product, you’ll need a way to sell it.

Your website

Your website is the number one place to sell your product. Usually, it’s going to be where you’re going to be able to make money blogging.

Though you may have very little traffic, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t sell it there; it just means that you’ll have a smaller audience to market to.

Amazon Self Publishing

Amazon Self Publishing

If you decide to create an ebook, you can also try selling it on Amazon. Amazon allows you to post eBooks for sale with a platform called Amazon KDP. You do have to pay a fee when you sell each ebook copy, but they have a huge audience and market to expose you to, so it’s worth considering.

Because Amazon has such a big market, do blog sites make money, they can offer a huge audience to purchase your ebook. That’s good, but it will also be much more competitive to get a sale, which is something to consider.

ClickBank

ClickBank

Another place to sell an info product is called ClickBank, do blog sites make money, a popular platform full of affiliates. What you do here is post your product to their marketplace, and this platform has an army of affiliate marketers who will sell it for you.

This is great because if you have an info product that converts and people are buying it, and you offer affiliates enough money per sale they generate, they’re likely to sell it on your behalf. So though you’ll make less money per sale, you’ll increase your volume significantly, and it can help you grow your brand and the product as a whole.

You could also launch it in all three places if you’d like; there’s nothing that says that you can’t do that. But ultimately, you need to figure out where you want to launch it and go with it from there.

5, do blog sites make money. Use Gumroad if you sell on your website

Gumroad

If you sell on your website, here’s do blog sites make money little hint—use Gumroad. This platform is nice because it allows you to choose a price for your product, and then people can put in ONLY a credit card, then checkout and download your info product.

It’s fast, simple, do blog sites make money, and reduces friction when getting a do blog sites make money other neat thing about it is that they have the “pay-what-you-want” model. I did a post about this a while ago that you can find here, but the basic premise is that if you’re not sure how much to charge for your info product, you can tell your customers to pay what they want.

If you’re wondering, this model works.

Every week I make a couple of hundred dollars with the pay-what-you-want model, which works beautifully.

The key to the pay what you want pricing model is to point out what the average contribution is. This gives people a baseline of how much to contribute, do blog sites make money, and every single time I did earn money this way, it’s been the exact amount that I said was the average.

6. Market your product

Once everything is all set up, the last step to help you in making money blogging is to market your product. There are many strategies to do this, but I think the easiest way to start is to find the most visited pages of your blog and link from there to offers for the info product itself.

In addition to that, you could use social media, like Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook groups, or wherever you’re active. It’s a great place to tell people about your info product and hopefully get some people to buy it.

4) Sell a Course

The fourth way how to make money blogging is to sell a course. This goes without saying, but if you have a blog on a particular topic where you’re getting readers and visitors to visit and they enjoy your content, they’re going to see you as an expert.

When they do that, it’s possible to sell a course to them. The key is to give helpful information to your audience to the point where they follow you and respect your advice. Once they do that, a segment of your followers will happily buy a course that you create. I’ve done this myself and have a free course I offer that eventually leads to a paid course.

Because of the expertise I have and the authority I’ve built, I’m able to sell online courses of my own every single month.

How to Start Selling Online Courses

1. Choose a topic relevant to your blog

The first thing you want to do is choose a course topic relevant to your blog. For example, I talk about online business on this blog, so it would make sense to create a course on affiliate marketing or do keyword research and Search Engine Optimization (SEO)because it’s all related.

2. Outline your course and think of exercises

Next, you want to outline your course and think of exercises for your students to complete along the way.

For those who don’t know, I’m a college professor on the side of this whole “online business” stuff. Because I teach, I know from personal experience that having exercises will make students retain the information more, and it also has a higher perceived value.

You won’t hear many other folks talking about creating exercises along the way, do blog sites make money, but I assure you that it’s a great idea and will help your students greatly.

3. Film your course

Then you’ll want to film your course. It could just be PowerPoints with you talking over them, but frankly, that’s pretty boring. Don’t be scared to grab your phone and record yourself talking through different things, or you could use a whiteboard—just try to change it up and not use the same format every time.

4. Decide where to sell the online course

Next, you need to decide where to host and sell your do blog sites make money. I’ve broken it down into three different platforms for you to consider.

Thinkific

Thinkific

The first platform that I recommend is a platform called Thinkific. Thinkific is nice because they’ll give you a full-fledged online learning portal for your account, and it’s completely free to start with.

This is the platform I use to host my own courses, and that’s why it comes with my highest recommendation. You can read my full Thinkific review here if you’d like.

It’s easy to use from a tech perspective. It takes away the stress of wondering where to put your videos, how to build modules, where to put your exercises, etc. It takes all of the headaches out of the process.

When I started and created my first course, I was looking for an affordable platform, and you can’t beat free, and that’s what Thinkific offers. Of course, they earn money when you sell a course, but the cut they take is very reasonable.

This platform includes the platform to build your course and the hosting for all of your videos in your course.

Click here to start a free trial.

And, if you want to learn i like to make money get turnt g eazy other options to host your own courses, you can check my comparison between the two most popular options (Thinkific vs. Teachable) or check out this post I wrote on the best online course platforms.

Use your own website.

Another way to sell your course is to do so on your own website, which is hard because you’ll have a limited amount of people when you start. However, it’s nice because you’re able to do blog sites make money them do blog sites make money your blog content directly to purchasing the course right from your website seamlessly.

You have to figure out how to get the people to purchase the course, which is a challenger, but I’m living proof that it can be done.

The other good thing is you’ll usually have a higher price point because there is no middle man to take a fee when it&#;s on your own website.

My advice? Don’t go this route until you’ve had some success with your course and you’ve been able to generate some sales.

Udemy

Udemy

The next alternative to that is Udemy. Udemy is a huge marketplace for courses, and I still have some courses hosted there myself.

I used to make about $ a month there. It’s a great place because it has a huge amount of students.

There are millions of students there, and they’ll even market your courses for you if they’re good. The problem with Udemy is that the entire student population is trained to buy courses for $10 each.

Because Udemy was built out as a discount platform, most students (including myself) will just wait until the courses go on sale for $10, which is often. That’s the biggest problem as an instructor on the Udemy platform. Your courses will be sold for a fraction of what they’re worth.

I like this platform as a student, but I’m not a fan of it from an instructor’s perspective.

Set up your course (I recommend that you use Thinkific)

Set up your course

After you’ve chosen where you want to host your course (I recommend that you use Thinkific), then you can set up the course and go through the process of uploading videos, do blog sites make money, practice materials, exercises, and everything you need to create the course.

Promote your course

Once you’ve created your course, do blog sites make money, which is the hardest part, you have to promote it, do blog sites make money. To do this, do blog sites make money, you can use your blog to tell people about the course and link to it.

But it doesn’t just stop there, do blog sites make money. You can promote your course anywhere your target audience is; it doesn’t matter. The key is to make them aware of the course and give them the ability to access it.

I like to create free content that’s helpful on my blog and then give do blog sites make money students a way to opt-in (usually in the form of a website pop-up) and become subscribers to my email list using ActiveCampaign.

ActiveCampaign

From there, I focus on email marketing and start delivering emails that deliver value, and eventually, I’ll pitch my full course. For me, this works well, so it’s what I recommend to others.

That said, do blog sites make money people will use a webinar platform and drive ads to a webinar they host and try to sell the course there. This can be expensive and has a learning curve, but once you figure out a sales funnel for people to go into and end up as a conversion as a new student, this is a great way to passive income on autopilot.

Keep in mind that once you have an established reputation and your course has positive reviews, you may want to look into contacting influencers in your niche to offer them an affiliate commission if they get people to purchase your course from you.

5) Display Ads

Next are display ads.

I don’t love this one for beginners because you’re not going to have much traffic when you start your blog, and to be successful with display ads, you need a lot of traffic. That said, do blog sites make money, it’s one of the best ways to make truly passive income, so it’s a great way to monetize.

At this point, I’ve found a lot of success with display ads (Over $,+) because I have a lot of traffic. Of course, you can check out my income reports to see the total numbers, but display ads are where most of my money comes from.

How to Start Displaying Ads (Using Google AdSense and Othe Ad Network)

1. Sign up with a Display Ad Network

Ezoic

I recommend that you join Ezoic as it’s the best network out there for display ads, do blog sites make money I use it across all of my own sites as they have the best revenue optimization on the market.

Of course, you can also use Google Adsense or www.oldyorkcellars.com, but my testing shows they don’t perform as well as Ezoic, do blog sites make money. So if you want to see my comparison between these two platforms, here’s a breakdown.

2. Put Ads on Your Website

Once you’ve been approved, you need to put ads on your website. This sounds complicated, but it’s super simple.

All you have to do is copy some code that the Ezoic platform gives you, put it onto your website, and they will automatically show the ads on your blog for you with every page view. That’s the beauty of it. It’s a pretty simple process.

Once you have the code, put it into your blog&#;s header, and then the ads will trigger automatically. Alex from the WPEagle YouTube channel has a great tutorial on this.

put ads on your website

3. Promote current content

Next, you need to promote your current content through social media and make sure people know you have this content. Or, if you’re already ranking with SEO, that’s the ideal situation. Consider using some of these SEO tools to help if you&#;re not.

4. Create new blog content

To make money with Ezoic, do blog sites make money, you need to create great articles to rank them in search engines. If someone searches something and you’re at the top of Google, that’s really where you want to be as it’ll continuously bring traffic to you without any promotion.

The best thing about these display ads is that these aren’t the selling do blog sites make money from ad networks where you have to go direct and talk to companies to find a way to make ad revenue. Instead, you place a piece of code because of these ad platforms, and the ads such as banner ads and more will be served automatically without any work.

This is a great way to make money because it’s passive. The problem is that you’re not do blog sites make money to have a ton of traffic, especially in the beginning. So you may make some money, which is nice, but overall, you’re not going to make a ton of real money blogging with this your first time. But as your blog grows, this is a great revenue stream.

6) Become a Freelance Writer

The next method to figure out how to make money blogging is to become a freelance writer.

Think of your blog as your resume. As a beginning do blog sites make money, you’re using a blogging platform to write and post every day, which is great. Hopefully, you’re doing a really good job, contributing a lot, and showing your expertise, do blog sites make money. But this same blog can be used to make money blogging as a freelance writer.

When you are looking for freelance writing gigs, you want to focus on blogs in the same, or possibly a shoulder, niche.

The same niche is tough because you don’t necessarily want to write for your competitors.

Instead, you could do a shoulder niche.

For example, let’s say that, for some reason, you’re obsessed with cats, and you write all about them on your own blog, do blog sites make money. What you could do is create content for websites about other animals.

For instance, you could write for a dog blog. It’s a similar niche to what you’re already doing because it’s for pets, but the animal is different.

How to Start Becoming Freelance Writer

1. Choose a focus

First, you need to choose a focus. Don’t be one of those writers who says, “I can write on any topic.” Nobody wants that; they want you to be a niche writer with expertise.

For example, pets are a perfect niche because there’s a lot of work out there for that one, and it’s very much in demand.

2. Find jobs

From there you need to find jobs. There are a few different places to go for this:

Upwork

Upwork

You could try www.oldyorkcellars.com, which is a huge marketplace for freelancers. This is where many people, like myself, go to hire writers.

Facebook Groups

Facebook groups

Or, you could look at Facebook Groups. There are a lot of them out there, so you can go ahead and join some of those.

Professional network

You could also do blog sites make money to your professional network to see any opportunities.

Just tell folks you’re connected with that you’re working on becoming a freelance writer, and if you’re a respected expert/writer, they’ll likely take you up on the opportunity if they need the help.

ProBlogger

ProBlogger

If you don’t want to reach out to your network, you do blog sites make money also watch for job listings on ProBlogger. In addition, they have their own job board, which is a great place to find writers for people like myself who are looking for them.

Work for an agency

You can work for an agency. There are many agencies out there where all they do is help people create content for their blog or website.

You could work for them part-time or full-time. The thing about this is, you’re not going to make as much money because you’re working for them.

However, it’s still a good way to get your foot in the door.

Craigslist

Lastly, you can apply for writing job positions on Craigslist in the gigs section. This is a highly underrated resource as many small local businesses like finding writers in their area.

3. Build your portfolio of clients

What you need to do from there is build a portfolio of writing clients, do blog sites make money. Then, start creating examples, creating content for other people, and putting a portfolio together. Then, as you do blog sites make money a more seasoned freelance writer, you can start charging more for your services.

Once you have those writing samples and happy clients, people will be willing to pay you increased rates.

Then you can either ask your old clients for a raise, or you can start to drop the clients and look for new ones. Over time you can make a good amount of money blogging as a freelance writer.

You can also create a membership community to help you make money blogging.

Think about it, let’s say you have a small blog, and a couple of hundred people are visiting each week. What you can do is offer access to a community.

What you’d do in this instance is create a membership and tell them, “Okay, it’s $XX per month,” or whatever price you choose to join the membership community, do blog sites make money, which is usually just forums on the site that people can talk with each other.

You may not get a lot of money at first, do blog sites make money, but over time if you have 20, 30, 40 people in that community all paying a monthly fee, that can add up pretty quickly.

1. Figure out the incentives

First, you need to figure out the incentives for your membership.

One incentive might be that you offer a group mastermind with a group of people, and you could hold office hours every week. Or, you could give them offers to access special tools. Of, you could provide them with access to exclusive content.

There could even be courses, a podcast, or info products you’ve created within the community. You have to offer them some value and consistently deliver it, so they want to stay part of the membership community.

2. Choose a platform

In terms of the platforms, there are two that I like.

Facebook Groups

First, you can use Facebook Groups. Just create a group and pay every month to maintain their membership there.

It can be a bit of a headache because you have to make sure they are paying their fees, and you have to check all that manually, but it’s a simple solution.

I’m also not do blog sites make money love with this solution because it’s built directly on Facebook. This is fine now, but they may eventually start charging group owners to maintain the platform.

LearnDash

LearnDash

The other platform you can use is called LearnDash. This learning management platform allows you to create an info product or course, and then you can create a community all around that.

It’s really good for WordPress blog websites and is a solid option, but you’ll need to make an info product to draw people in.

3. Market the platform to your audience

After you’ve done et everything up, then you’ll want to market the platform to your audience. Through your blog posts, your website, email list, or navigation, let your audience know that you have a community and want them to be a part of it.

4. Sign up with recurring billing

Next, make sure that your audience signs up with recurring billing. This is key because you want to keep getting money month after month from all the different people joining.

5, do blog sites make money. Provide value and encourage engagement

You also need to provide value and promote engagement, do blog sites make money. If you don’t do that, people aren’t going to stay, and if people don’t last, you’re not going to get paid. So, do blog sites make money, you need to make sure you always provide value.

8) Offer a Packaged Service

This is like consulting, but a little bit different.

A packaged service will be something where you advertise on your blog and say, “Hey, I can do this particular thing for you every month on a retainer.”

A few examples would be;

Social media services could handle a company’s Instagram or Pinterest account.

You could also offer writing services such as content production or copywriting.

Or, you could offer a virtual assistant package and offer a package like;

XX hours a week/month for X amount of dollars.

The idea is to create a predetermined, packaged service that you can offer people. If they take you up on that offer, then you’ll get a new blog client. Testimonials are really big here when you are starting.

But, if you want to get a portfolio full of clients, the key to success is to make your clients happy and get referrals.

How to Start Offering Packaged Service

1. Figure out a fixed cost that works for you

First, do blog sites make money, you want to figure out a fixed cost for your services that you’re happy with.

For example, if you’re doing Pinterest management, figure out exactly what you’re going to do and then figure out a fixed cost related to your deliverables.

2. Define what the offer is (Set strict guidelines)

Step two to this is defining what do blog sites make money offer is. Make sure you set strict guidelines and tell clients exactly what they will get. If you don’t tell them exactly what you’re offering, they may expect more, do blog sites make money, which is not a good situation to be in.

3. Create a page on your website navigation

Next is to create a page on your website or blog in the navigation bar to ensure your blog or website visitors are aware do blog sites make money it. You also need to insert calls to action throughout pieces do blog sites make money content you write to draw attention to the offer.

4. Market your offer in future blog posts and on social media

Market your service in future blog posts and social media—get the word out there. Put it in the content you already have, but also do blog sites make money sure you market it in future content you’re creating.

5. Get clients for monthly retainers

Sign your clients up for a monthly retainer.

Try to get them on the hook for a specific outcome each month for one particular amount of money.

Take on as many clients as you want, but make sure you do high-quality work. If you do that, they’re going to start referring other people over to you, and you can eventually get paid more money from happy clients.

6. Increase price over time

Once people are referring clients to you, and they’re okay with your price increases, you’re in really good shape because you can start selectively about who you work with.

As you get better at what you do and become a more seasoned provider, you might outsource the services and grow a whole business where you employ others and create your mini agency.

9) Create a Paid Directory on Your Blog

How to Start Creating Paid Directory

1. Find local businesses related to your blog that advertise on Google

The way it works is that you find local businesses that advertise on Google.

As an example, let’s say you have a fitness blog.

Go into Google and search “gyms.” Then, you would look through the results to find different gyms advertising on Google.

2. Gather data about the businesses and create a directory

From there, you gather data on the companies that would be do blog sites make money for somebody who’s looking for a gym. Then, put that all together and create a directory on your website with their info.

3. Contact them to confirm their info

After you have built the directory, you contact them and ask if they can verify their information, do blog sites make money. They’ll let you know if all is good or need to change something.

4. Let them know of paid placements

Once they have confirmed the information, then you tell them, “Okay, great. And just so you know, if you want to move to the top of the page and get a paid placement, do blog sites make money, it’s $XX per month. If you want to get to the top of the page, I can help you out with that.”

If you can get that particular page ranked high in Google, do blog sites make money, you can make a good amount of money with a page on your blog.

It’s not easy to do this, but if you’re able to make it happen, it’s easy money.

10) Coaching Others

The last way many bloggers can make money on their successful blogs is to coach.

Now, I will say—do not be a phony coach.

Don’t be one of those who says, “I’m a life coach,” if you don’t even have your own life together.

Don’t say, “I’m a business coach,” if you don’t even have your own business together.

The internet is full of those people, and it drives me insane.

How to Start Coaching Others

1. Have some measured success first

First of all, have some level of measured success before you go down this path.

Again, make sure that you have some level of measured success to know what you’re talking about and give good advice to other people.

2. Focus content strategy on people who need help

If you have some success, you want to take your blog and do blog sites make money your content strategy on people who need help. Then, you need to write blog posts that answer their questions.

Focus on stressful issues they may be dealing with.

Try to think like them and figure out what they’re dealing with. Then, tailor your content strategy to solve their problems.

3. Offer personal help and link to your contact page

Hopefully, they will come to your blog from search engines, and you can offer personal help and link to a contact page where they can then click and fill out their information to send an email over to you.

4. Receive emails and offer services

From there, you receive their emails, and you offer your services to them. You could do a packaged deal, but it depends on what you want to do.

When I consult, I’ll have one initial call at a reasonable price and understand the person I’m talking to.

After that, I’ll offer them a session package.

I start with the initial call and typically sell packages of three calls after that. But, to be honest, especially in the online business space, to help people achieve success, I need to speak with them multiple times anyway.

5. Don’t answer everything—point out things they will need in the future

In that first call, make sure you answer their questions and find out other things they need from you in the future. You need to say, “Okay, you have these things figured out, do blog sites make money, but we also need these five-ten other things.”

To get these five-ten other things, you’ll need to have more calls because, frankly, you couldn’t do it all in one hour anyway; it would just overload them.

6. Book clients, do blog sites make money, treat them well, and referrals will come

Next, like most bloggers, you need to book clients, treat them well, and follow referrals. Just like anything in business, if you help them, referrals will come to you.

Make it an effort to overachieve and do blog sites make money help people. If you take that approach, you’ll be able to enjoy the work and make a living while doing so.

Admittedly, this is something that I’m not a big fan of. However, in my opinion, the risk of being penalized by Google outweighs the benefit of short-term cash.

But the premise is simple.

Once your website do blog sites make money a decent amount of traffic or authority, you’re going to find that people will contact you and are willing to pay you to place content they write on your blog.

While this can be lucrative by itself, with some posts fetching $+ once you have a reputable site, the risk here is that search engines will do blog sites make money this activity and penalize you.

Technically speaking, do blog sites make money, Google created a new tag for sponsored content, a guest post, and more. However, most people who contact you don’t want that tag applied as it’s believed that it has less SEO value.

That said, if you’re willing to take the risk or have a site that isn’t making money blogging or any other way and you don’t mind risking it, here’s how you can use this strategy.

1. Build a Website or Blog

Flippa

The first step to making income from sponsored posts is to start a blog if you don’t already have one. Technically speaking, you could buy a blog/website on Flippa as well, do blog sites make money, but for a good site, that could be a hefty investment.

2. Grow Traffic and Authority to Your Site

To get individuals and businesses to contact you about placing sponsored posts, you’re going to need to have some traffic or authority on your website, do blog sites make money. Generally speaking, creating a lot of good content is important here, but even more important is building backlinks. This is because sites with more backlinks rank higher in SEO tools and are considered more valuable than sites with fewer backlinks. So, generally speaking, if you can get your site to a domain rating (an Ahrefs metric) of 40+, you’ll be a target for most businesses.

3. Setup a “Guest Post” Page

One of the most common ways to get a large amount of these inquiries is guest blogging. It is to set up a guest posts page on your site. On this guest posts page, you want to clarify that you accept guest posts and include an email for them to reach out to and a form to fill out. Tell folks that you’re willing to take guest posts will significantly increase the number of emails you get. While a guest posting can get annoying as many people try to get very cheap placements, many pay a fair market rate.

If you’re wondering why we don’t refer to guest blogging or guest post content as “Sponsored Posts” publicly, it’s because that might get you in trouble with Google which we want to avoid.

4. Respond to Your Emails

Once this is all set up, you’re going to notice an influx of emails coming in from individuals and businesses all over the internet that are looking to get sponsored posts or links placed for their website. Of course, it’s in your best interest to respond to these emails, but I have to recommend that you create templates that you can copy and paste every time. This will save you a TON of time, and it’s a good way to filter those serious about the sponsored post opportunity.

What should you include in this email?

  • Pricing (It’s best to call the charge for a sponsored post a “publishing fee” as opposed to someone “paying to get guest posts.” Technically speaking, buying backlinks is against Google’s policies)
  • Any forbidden link types (Gambling, do blog sites make money, Casino, CBD, Pornography, etc.)
  • A timeframe for the transaction
  • Expectations on payment once posted

5. Place the Sponsored Posts

When you and a third party have agreed on your terms, and they’ve submitted the content, it’s a good idea to review what they’ve written and specifically what pages they’re trying to link to. Failure to do this could lead you down the path of allowing outbound links on your site that are spammy and could hurt your website’s reputation.

Keep in mind while people will tell you that they just want to get some exposure for the brand, the real goal here for anybody posting on your site is to rank the content that they’ve already written on another site. Sometimes that’s fine, do blog sites make money, and the content they’ve written is good, but other times this do blog sites make money lead to a bad situation where you’re being asked to link to something you may not otherwise link to.

Your Mom (or maybe even your spouse) wants to know how do bloggers get paid.

How do bloggers make money?

The same way everyone else does: by offering something of value in exchange for money.

Which means before you can start making money on your blog it has to be a valuable place on the web. The type of value you blog has to offer will differ on how you want to monetize your blog.

There are five main ways bloggers make money: ads, affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, products, and services.

Each section will start out explaining how blogs are monetized with that plan and then answer the following questions:

  • who pays the blogger
  • when can beginning bloggers start making money with that method
  • tips for getting your blog ready for making money via that route.

This post is beefy. I wanted to give you the most in-depth overview on how you can make money blogging. Feel free to skip to the sections you are most interested in.

Here&#;s a brief overview in Story format:

#1 Bloggers make money with ads

Let’s start here because ads are probably the most well-known way bloggers make money.

How does it work? A blogger signs up for an ad network to place ads on their site. Most ad networks use targeted ads. Meaning the ad changes depending on who is view the blog, the content on the blog, and or the content the viewer recently visited.

Popular ad networks bloggers belong to

  • Adsense &#; no monthly minimum to apply
  • Adthrive &#; minimum ofmonthly pageviews
  • Mediavine &#;  25, monthly sessions
  • Sovrn &#; no monthly minimum to apply

The two main ways bloggers get paid through ad networks are per impression or per click.

Paid per impression – with these ads, the viewer does not have to click on the ad in order for the blogger to receive an income. They are paid per impression, which is how many times the ad is seen.

Paid per click – every time someone clicks on the ad, blogger receive a small amount of money for that click.

Here&#;s a recap on how making money with ads works. Sovrn shares the following,

&#;advertisers pay website owners based on how many people have seen their ads. Every time an ad is seen by a reader, that’s called “an impression.” Because there are billions of ad impressions every day, advertisers pay based on intervals of 1, impressions do blog sites make money CPM (cost per mille impressions).&#;

When you are ready to place ads on your site, your ad network will coach you through where to place the ads. Here are some common areas you will see ads on blogs:

  • Sidebar, frequently sticky
  • Header
  • Over images (personal side note: if find these annoying, but lots of bloggers are making good money from it)
  • In post after x amount of paragraphs
  • Sticky footer on mobile

Who pays the blogger?

In most cases, the ad network a blogger is associated with pays the blogger a monthly income. Occasionally, brands will reach out directly to a blogger to place do blog sites make money ad on the blog. In that case, do blog sites make money, the brand would negotiate a rate and pay the blogger directly.

When can you start monetizing with ads?

Beginning bloggers often try making their first money with ads and quickly become frustrated when they are making pennies a month.

The reason beginning bloggers can’t make money from ads is because they do not have enough traffic. So, while you can place ads on your site at any time, realistically you won’t make very much money unless you are getting around 25, pageviews a month.

You are better off waiting until you hit that 25, pageview mark and then adding ads to your site.

I tried going through Google Adsense’s application process for my mock blog. I set up this blog for my beginning bloggers course. It had 4 posts and a fully designed home page. Google did not approve my application for AdSense stating that site was not developed enough. So even with the big G you need to have an established site before you can place their ads on your blog.

Tips for making money with ads:

As mentioned above, if you want to make money with ads you need traffic. Lots of traffic. How do you get more traffic to your site? The first is step is do blog sites make money have quality content that people actually want to read. The next step is to market that content. Pinterest is my favorite way to get traffic to my blog.

If you want to do blog sites make money money with ads focus your efforts on epic content and marketing. When it comes to making money via ads this will be your primary focus before you hit the magical 25, pageviews and after.

When a blogger do blog sites make money directly with a brand, whether by having the brand come to them or by pitching the brand, the commission rate for the sponsored content is negotiable. My friend Tracie has a great post about sponsored content that discusses how to charge for your content.

When a blogger works through an influencer networks to land a sponsored content gig the pay rate is usually set a head of time.

If it’s not the right fit, you will likely let me know it, which is why I only work with brands that I align with The Healthy Maven.

#4 Bloggers make money creating and selling products

Many people think that bloggers primarily make their income via ads. That is true for many, but some of the most successful bloggers these days sell their own product.

Bloggers sell digital products, educational products, memberships or subscriptions,  books, their own physical products,  or wholesale purchase a products and retail it on their own blog.

Let’s break those down and talk about the different products bloggers create and sell.

Digital Products

Digital products are very popular products for bloggers to create and sell on their blogs. Some examples are printable planners, invitations, party printable, meal plans, guides, etc.

Digital products have a high earning potential because they usually have little to no costs to create them.

After you create a digital product, do blog sites make money, you can use a WordPress plugin like Easy Digital Downloads or a tool like Gumroad or even Paypal to sell and deliver the digital goods you create.

Here are some real-life examples of bloggers making money via the digital products they sell:

Courses

We live in the age of knowledge. Maybe too much but that is a topic for another day.

As a blogger you probably have expansive knowledge on a particular subject and can share that with others. Today’s bloggers are educating their audience by creating their own ebooks, guides, online courses and workshops.

A large number of bloggers are trying to make money online by packaging their expertise and selling it to their audience so that they too can learn.

Why?

First, this is usually content bloggers are already creating on their blog. A lot of people have posts that are educational by nature and so a educational product comes naturally.

Secondly, creating and selling a course has a higher earning potential than some of the other money-making methods. You are in control of the price point and you make the full commission.

Lastly, audience size is not as crucial to start making money as it is with ads and sponsored posts. Obviously, do blog sites make money, the more followers you have the higher earning potential. But if you have followers and 10 buy your dollar course than that is $ dollars more than you would have had. On the flip side someone with followers might make fifty cents from ads in a month.

People are looking to learn and grow, by providing them a way to learn you have something of value that they are willing to pay for.

Memberships and Subscriptions

Memberships or subscriptions are where bloggers create exclusive content for people who sign up (pay) for their membership program. The content is only accessible to paid customers.

Examples &#;

Physical Products

Many people use their blogs to showcase and discuss products they create. The creative entrepreneurs of the world make up a large space in the blogging world. Some have been creating their product for a long time and start their blogs as a way to market their product. Other bloggers create their own product after seeing a need or coming up with an idea they knew their audience would love.

I have been following www.oldyorkcellars.com for several years now and have loved seeing the products she has created for her blog audience, do blog sites make money. As she blogged about her own bullet journals she was able to create products to help her readers create theirs.

There are several ways you can sell a physical product alongside your blog. Some bloggers link their site to an Etsy shop and sell their product there. You can sell physical products on your WordPress blog by using the plugin WooCommerce. Other bloggers use Shopify to create their blog and storefront, instead of WordPress.

Examples:

Books

This one is pretty self-explanatory. For many bloggers, publishing a book make sense because they are already prolific writers and have a good amount of content. Some bloggers self publish and others are contracted through a publishing firm.

Examples:

Fun little side story about Sally&#;s books. We own all three and my children and I enjoy baking together. My six year old son says Sally&#;s cookies are the best in the whole world. He knows she&#;s a blogger and is fascinated with the whole thing. We saw her books at Costco and he said, &#;Sally made it into Costco?! She must be really big now!&#;

Wholesale Products

I’m actually surprised that the blogging world doesn’t talk about this one more. But, it is a great way to make money online and not have to create your own product.

There two main ways bloggers make money selling a product they purchased from a wholesaler:

  1. They purchase the product and handle all the shipping and sometimes packaging for that product.
  2. They work with a wholesaler that drop-ships products. This means the bloggers sells the product on their site but do blog sites make money wholesale company packages and ships the product to the customer.

Example for number one: North Star Balloons is a balloon company that sells balloons to businesses only, not retail. A party blogger or wedding blogger, for example, could become a retailer and create a balloon shop on their blog (StudioDIY has one!). You blog posts will feature these balloons and funnel readers to your very own balloon store.

There are endless options when it comes to creating and selling a product on your blog!

Who pays the do blog sites make money customer! There’s no middle man network take part of the commission. No getting only a commission of the sale. As the creator and seller of the product, the blogger gets paid directly from the customer. There are still costs involved for the blogger, do blog sites make money. There’s a credit card service fee and fees for the tool or app they are using to sell their product.

If you are selling a physical product there the costs associated to creating the product and there are also shipping fees involved.

When can you start monetizing with your own product?

Technically, you could launch your product when you start you blog. But I would advise against that.

Data reports everywhere show that only % of your email list will buy your product. For that reason, a good goal to set before launching your own product is to have quality subscribers on your email list.

Tips for making money by selling your own product:

First, get to know your audience. What are their pain points, needs, and desires. How can you help them? Establish your authority and credibility first.

Growing an engaged email list should be your top priority if you want to sell your own products. This is the best place to pitch and do blog sites make money your product.

Don’t feel like you have to go big with your first product. Start out with a small digital product. Meera has a great post on different types of digital products you can create for your blog.

How to make money blogging, part 1: Build your online presence

Before you start do blog sites make money money, you’ll need to start a blog and grow your audience. Think of it this way: more traffic to your blog equals more money.

For that reason, earning money begins with choosing a strategic blogging niche and spreading the word about your blog. Here’s how to do it:

Choose a profitable niche

If you’re just starting a blog, you're probably asking yourself, What should I write about?

Before you dive into writing, you’ll need to choose a niche. Pick one overarching theme for your blog so that you can hone in on a particular field and attract a targeted group of fans.

When selecting your niche, it’s important to start with your passions - after all, do blog sites make money, you’ll be dedicating lots of time and effort to this subject. But if you’re serious about making money blogging, you also need to think about subjects that people are interested in reading about, and that will ultimately be financially viable.

With that in mind, there are three questions you need to ask yourself when choosing a blog niche:

  1. What are my interests?

  2. Who is my audience?

  3. Which topics are profitable?

Question 1: What are my interests?

In order for your blogging efforts to be sustainable in the long term, you’ll want to write about something you’re genuinely passionate about.

Likewise, consider your level of professional experience. If you have no prior connections to your blogging niche, you’ll have a harder time establishing yourself as a credible source of information in that industry.

On the other hand, do blog sites make money, if you have work experience, educational background or connections in a particular field, you’re already prepared to write blog posts about those subjects and will have an easier time building trust among your readership. Take a look at these blog ideas - they'll jumpstart your imagination.

Question 2: Who is my audience?

If there’s demand to learn about your niche, do blog sites make money, and if you offer knowledge or information that satisfies an important need, then readers will flock to your blog. Use the subjects you’re interested in to think about what kinds of readers you might attract.

Then, think about the kinds of problems people face - and the solutions they’re seeking - within those fields. That way, you can create a blog that centers around targeting these groups and providing them with the answers they need.

Question 3: Which topics are profitable?

While you can blog about nearly anything, some blog niches tend to be more profitable than others. To anticipate whether you can make money blogging with a particular niche, consider the opportunities for sales in that subject area.

If you’re creating a cooking blog, for instance, an article about the top kitchen appliances is a great opportunity for promoting affiliate links or placing ads. If you’re thinking about writing a digital marketing blog, you might consider opportunities to sell e-books or offer consulting services.

Types of blogs that make money

Several types of blogs can be profitable if you know how to manage them strategically, do blog sites make money, but here are the most common:

  • Business and marketing blogs

  • Finance blog

  • Health blogs

  • Fashion blogs

  • DIY and crafts blogs

  • Nutrition and food blogs

  • Lifestyle blogs

Whichever niche you choose, it’s important to think about the monetization factor from the very beginning and set goals for making an income from your blog. This will ensure you build a strong foundation from the get-go.

If you’re still stuck on what niche to focus on, these blog examples can help provide guidance.

Scale your blog content

Now that you’ve selected your niche, it’s time to start creating content. As you begin, keep in mind that the strategy behind your articles is just as important as the writing itself. Your articles, of course, will involve a lot of writing - but they’ll also involve a great deal of research and planning.

On top of that, you’ll want to upload new content consistently and frequently without compromising on quality, do blog sites make money. Here’s what you should know as you start creating and scaling your content:

Choose the right topics

Just as you selected a strategic blog niche, you’ll also want to choose strategic topics to write about. The best topics must accomplish two things:

  • They address the needs of your target audience and offer them a thoughtful, actionable solution.

  • They target keywords with high search volumes - a number that indicates how many people are looking up a given word or topic during a selected time frame (typically one month). The idea here is that the higher the keyword volume, the more interested people are in that topic. When your articles provide a thorough answer to people’s search queries, the more likely it is to rank on search engines - which, in turn, will bring people to your site (more on that later in Step 4).

Writing headlines is also an important step you don't want to forget. Be sure to accompany all of your blog topics with catchy titles, do blog sites make money. The catchier your blog titles, the more likely it is that people will click to read the content.

How to make money blogging: blog topic ideas

Post consistently

To reach your initial goal to get more site visitors, you’ll need to post fresh content frequently. Aim to publish a minimum of 3 to 4 new posts per week so that you maximize organic traffic.

On top of that, you’ll want to publish regularly. Don’t release a huge batch of articles one week, only to publish nothing the following week. Instead, create an editorial calendar and plan a consistent publishing schedule ahead of time. This will signify to Google that you run a healthy, do blog sites make money, active blog.

Distribute the workload

As you consider how to make money blogging, remember that you’re not only building your online presence; you’re also sharpening your entrepreneurial skills. You’ll soon realize that creating upwards of 3 posts per week is a lot to handle alongside business management.

Still, don’t let that slow you down. Consider getting extra help as you launch your blog so that you can scale your content quickly. You can do this by:

  • Outsourcing some content to freelancers so you can scale your content quickly.

  • Opening up your blog for other bloggers to publish articles to your site (a great free option for you that also gives publicity to the guest contributor).

Whichever option you choose, the bottom line is that you structure your workload in a way that enables you to focus on business strategy as well as writing.

Build a reputation

Once you’ve created a large amount of strategic content, the next step toward making money blogging is to establish yourself as an authority in your field, do blog sites make money. These tips will help guide you:

Try guest blogging

Start by expanding your online presence, particularly in the writing and blogging world. You can reach out to online publications in your niche and pitch ideas for guest posts. Remember to send a link to your blog alongside your pitch as evidence of your experience in the field.

To find guest blogging opportunities, browse your favorite publications to see if they publish content by outside contributors. Here are some publications that accept guest writers, with links to their Contact Us or Contributor pages:

Alternatively, if you follow any bloggers in your niche, you can search for their name online and see where they’re getting published. That will point you toward sites that are accepting guest content.

From there, you can pitch an idea to a writer or editor over email or via LinkedIn. If you already have a relationship with them on Twitter, you can do blog sites make money pitch them ideas there, do blog sites make money. These are two of the most commonly used social media platforms by professionals, and they’re often an effective way to reach people in the online publishing world.

Don’t be discouraged if your pitches aren’t accepted right away. That’s a perfectly normal situation for many, and your pitches will be accepted as you improve your outreach efforts. Besides, the more content you have published, the more you’ll build up do blog sites make money reputation - and the easier it will be for you to get published in the future.

If you’re lucky, some publications may offer you payment for your contributed content. This is already a great start when it comes to making money blogging. That said, even if guest posting doesn't compensate you financially, it’s still a great opportunity to network with others in your field and start growing your readership. With enough experience, you could eventually land your own guest column.

Guest blogging also comes with the benefit of providing backlinks to your own blog, which boosts your SEO. This is important because it makes your site more visible on search engines like Google, thus directing traffic to it. Read this article for more tips on SEO for bloggers.

Collaborate with experts

Another way to establish your credibility is by working closely with other experts in your field. This will give you more exposure and help you build an audience.

Begin by reaching out to professionals within your blogging niche - this could be a successful guest writer you follow or the editor of your favorite publication. Ask if you can conduct an interview with them, either as a guest post or for publication on your own blog. While this may seem like a bold request, people in this position are often happy to give interviews since it also increases their exposure.

Likewise, you can cross-promote other bloggers in your industry. Give their articles a shoutout on your social media posts and blog, and engage back and forth with them on Twitter. Chances are they’ll start reading your content as well and return the favor.

Promote and grow

At this point, you know that the more people read your blog, the easier it will be for you to earn an income from it. For that reason, growing your website traffic is an important stepping stone for making money from your blog.

Before we dive into how to do blog sites make money your blog, keep in mind that marketing your work is an ongoing effort. Even as your readership grows, marketing your site will be just as crucial to its success as the blogging process itself.

Here are some ways to spread the word and build your popularity:

Optimize for SEO

As mentioned earlier, SEO is critical for getting your website on Google. If you want people to find your blog, one of the best ways to do this is by creating content that ranks on the first page of organic search results for relevant queries. For example, if you’re creating a baking blog, you’ll want to appear in the top results for queries such as “birthday cake recipes” and “carrot cake recipes.”

To do this, you should not only strive to create the most informative blog posts on the web, but you should also optimize these posts by using strategic long tail keywords - a specific type of keyword that targets your precise audience.

While this might sound intimidating, finding these keywords is actually quite simple for beginners to learn, especially with the help of certain keyword research tools. These types of blogging tools - which includes Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, Ahrefs (pictured below) and more - point you directly to the terms you should include.

Make money blogging: keyword research Ahrefs

If you’re completely new to SEO and keyword research, do blog sites make money, it’s worthwhile to set aside some time to take a quick online SEO course, many of which are available for free. Moz’s Beginner’s Guide to SEO is a great place to start.

But how do you get people to subscribe to your newsletter in the first place? Here are some ideas:

  • Create lead magnets: People are much more likely to sign up if they’re offered something valuable in exchange. Commonly known as “freebies,” lead magnets are just incentives that you offer in exchange for a subscription. Your offers might include a free e-book or guide, a complementary slide deck or online course, or a coupon code for your online store.

  • Create opt-in forms: Opt-in boxes typically take the form of pop-ups or slide-ins asking readers to subscribe. Because they’re hard to ignore, they tend to grab the attention of site visitors more so than static text. You might choose to create an opt-in form that directly tells visitors to subscribe to your emails. Another route is to make opt-in forms that highlight your lead magnets and that ask visitors to enter their email addresses in exchange for the free reward.

Build a social media strategy
