Infinite Daydream…
Swirls of color disperse, trickle into the air and freeze. Cracks form in the surface and a hidden world shines through. Ancient bodies wander through this alien landscape; climbing, digging, seeking. They gaze at you in search of answers. Infinite Daydream... is a surrealist inspired exhibition about the quest for knowledge and a world of uncertainty. These haunting and wondrous images remind us that this timeless quest is an essential part of what it means to be human.
Narendra Haynes’ unique painting style can be traced back to his foray into graffiti as a teenager. He fell in love with spray-paint from the start and soon became interested in how this relatively young medium could be used in new ways. He spent the following years developing a very precise layering technique that allowed him to paint detailed portraits on 18in x 24in wood panels. As his artistic process continued to evolve, he began combining spray-paint with other industrial materials (such as motor oil, epoxy, and polyurethane) to create extraordinary abstract textures. Recently Narendra has begun to combine these experimental materials and methods with traditional oil painting techniques. “Infinite Daydream…” represents the culmination of Narendra’s latest development and marks the first time this new work is being exhibited for public viewing.
Narendra was born in Detroit MI in 1985. He graduated from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art 2008. In 2006 he spent the year abroad studying at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He currently splits his time between New York and the Netherlands, making work and exhibiting in both locations.
